Reason for Being Unable to Divorce アマゾンはかすがい

I've been using a Kindle tablet under my husband's name while his using another under my name and this happened as follows... I asked him to buy me a Kindle Paperwhite about ten years ago. At that time I was enjoying being a dedicated homemaker and had no regular income. Since then, although he’s been the legal owner of the tablet, I’ve been using it while his paying for the books I buy on the tablet. (It's linked to his credit card.) Several years later, he wanted a Kindle tablet for himself. But we both wanted to manage books separately and in order for this to happen, the owner of the new tablet must be different from that of mine. This made us decide to buy another Kindle tablet under my name. The thing is that we completely forgot it until a week ago.

Last Sunday, being unable to buy a book on his Kindle, he called the Amazon call center when a disaster began. It took more than one hour to finish his account verification process because of his and my complete forgetfulness of the account situation and additional one hour for us to calm down after arguing about why this had occurred in the first place and how we could forget such an important thing, while the call center rep quietly listening to us and patiently saying, "When your problem is resolved, please let me know."

This was exhausting, but led us to making a practical decision, i.e., we would rather stay married than going through all these battles again for separating his stuff from mine. We have a saying in Japanese, "A child binds a husband and wife." In our case, it's Amazon which binds us.

私が専業主婦だった頃、旦那にキンドルペーパーホワイトを買ってもらった。収入がなかったので旦那名義、旦那支払いのタブレットだ。数年後、今度は旦那が自分も欲しいと言い始め、キンドルファイアを買ったのだが、同じアカウントで二つ持つと買った本がごっちゃになると言われ、旦那のキンドルは私名義で買った。つまり、私は旦那名義のキンドルを、旦那は私名義のキンドルを使っているわけだ。そしてそのことを先週まですっかり忘れていた。

先週、アマゾンで本を買えなくなり、旦那がコールセンターに電話したのだが事の始まり。全て忘れていたせいで状況把握に1時間かかり、挙句の果てに何でこんなことになったんだ、しかもどうしてこんな大事なことを忘れるんだと大喧嘩になってしまい、コールセンターの方に「お話終わりましたらお声がけくださいね」と優しく言われてしまう始末。我が家に子供はいないが、もし離婚ということになってアマゾンのアカウントを整理することになると考えるだけでぞっとした。我が家のかすがいはアマゾン、というお話でした。
