These 4 cm-tall netsuke all depict Jurōjin, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, on display at the Tokyo National Museum.
Jurojin is the god of the elderly and longevity in Japanese folklore. Legend says he was based on a real person from ancient times who stood about six feet tall with a very long head and a long white beard. Even though he was supposedly a giant, the netsuke sculptures of him are only 4cm tall! They are so cute!!
