Japanese Cornel (Cornus Officinalis) 山茱萸（サンシュユ）

These are flowers of the Japanese cornel (Cornus officinalis). A tree in my neighborhood hasn't flowered yet, so I almost gave up on seeing Japanese cornel flowers this year. But instead I've found another tree! Japanese cornel has several Japanese names, one of which is "haru kogane bana," meaning "spring gold flowers." That's a perfect name for the flower, isn't it!

山茱萸（サンシュユ）です。近所の木が今年は花を付けず、もう花を見るのはあきらめていたのですが、別の場所にこの木を発見しました。春に黄色の花を付けるので「春黄金花（ハルコガネバナ）」とも呼ばれています。ぴったりの名前ですね。
