Leopard Plant

Japanese follows English.

These are Farfugium japonicum or leopard plants at Hibiya Park and in my neighborhood. Most flowers die in autumn, so finding these bright yellow flowers made me happy.

People in Japan eat leopard plant stems as tempura or by stewing. My mom often stews/braises the stems and I do, too. They are good especially for adults, and I said "for adults" because they are a little bitter, which kids usually don't like. But trust me! That bitterness goes well with sake.... 😋

I see leopard plants everywhere these days, and this makes me wonder... Can I pick and bring them home? Maybe someday, if I have a chance😁, I will pick some and stew/braise them in dashi and soy sauce and show you them😋
