An Unsolved Mystery - Why Did My Temperature Rise to 104°F? なぜ40度の熱が？

I took coronavirus testing finally. I said finally because generally in Japan you can't take the test unless you have COVID-19 symptoms. 

At noon last Sunday, I suddenly felt cold and sick. I wrapped myself in a blanket, hoping to get better soon, but it got worse. I took the body temperature. What do you think I found? The temperature was 102°F!!!

I dashed to the bedroom, telling my husband not to come (it might be too late, though), and dialed the COVID-19 hotline. I explained that not only did I have asthma, but also I was anemic and had a fever of over 102°F. In twenty minutes, an ambulance came, taking me to a hospital. The temperature further rose to 104°F in the ambulance.   

The hospital put me on a drip and conducted three types of tests on me, i.e., a coronavirus antigen test, a coronavirus PCR test, and a flu test, all of which were nasal swabbing. The results of the COVID-19 antigen and flu tests came back soon, both negative, but not the COVID-19 PCR test result, which takes one to five days to come back according to the doctor.

Then I was told to go home with a prescription for fever. They had no room for patients like me, i.e., a patient with a fever of nearly 104°F, but who can breathe.... (My white blood cell count was over 10,000, meaning my body fighting infection.)

Following day, I got a negative result for the PCR testing, too. What a relief!!! But wait! The rate of false negatives is around 30%, so it's too early to completely feel safe. Besides, my results being all negative means that I may be infected with the virus anytime soon. I've resolved again to STAY HOME! 

And one last question. If neither coronavirus nor influenza virus was in my body, what was the cause for such a high fever?😂

PCR検査を受けました。抗原検査も受けました。インフルエンザ検査も受けました。

数日前、突然悪寒と吐き気を感じたので横になったのですが全然よくならない。で熱を測ってみたら38.6度。え～！！私色々問題あっても風邪だけはもう10年以上ひいてないんです。ましてや38.6度なんて！ 

寝室直行。すぐにコロナセンターに電話して喘息もちであることと高熱について話したら、救急車ということに。搬送中にはなんと39.6度にまで上昇。

病院ではすぐに点滴と検査で、2時間後には抗原検査とインフル検査の結果が。両方陰性でした。ただ、PCR検査の結果は翌日以降なので解熱剤を持って帰ってくださいと言われました。まだ呼吸できている私ごときの患者を受け入れる余地はないのです｡｡｡

翌日電話が来てPCR検査も陰性ということが分かりました。やった～！！でも偽陰性が30%ほどあるので安心するのはまだ早いし、これからコロナにかかる可能性があるってことでしょ。はい、ステイホーム続けます｡｡｡　

最後にもう一つ疑問が。じゃあ何で40度近い熱が出たのかしら？知恵熱？なん～て！もう分かりません😂
