Primrose Jasmine Has A Pitiful Japanese Name

Japanese follows English.

This is jasminum mesnyi, or more commonly primrose jasmine or Japanese jasmine. The lemon yellow was so pretty that it cheered me up!

Jasminum mesnyi

Primrose jasmine or Japanese jasmine

The plant is called "Yunnan yellow apricot" in Japanese although it's not apricot but jasmine as indicated by the English name. This Japanese name is after the plant being native to the Yunnan province in China and flowering around the same time as when apricot flowers, which is so confusing, like winter sweet being called "wax apricot" in Japanese for its color being similar to yellow wax and the flower appearing like apricot flowers....

But that's not it. Primrose jasmine has another Japanese name, which is terrible... "Pseudo yellow apricot." How rude! I would say, "I didn't ask to be named that!"
