Magnolia Grandiflora 'Exmouth' (Southern Magnolia) 細葉泰山木（ホソバタイサンボク）

This is Magnolia grandiflora 'Exmouth' or more commonly known as southern magnolia. As magnolias usually bear flowers high up on a tree, I was very happy to see a flower lower than my height and be able to photograph this elegantly blooming white magnolia that closely!! 

Southern magnolia is one of the last blooming magnolias. I saw other magnolias, such as Magnolia figo (banana shrub) and Magnolia denudata (yulan magnolia), this March and April.

細葉泰山木（ホソバタイサンボク）です。木蓮の一種ですがふつう高いところに花を付けるのですが、これはラッキーなことに下の方で咲いていたのでアップで写真を撮れました。3月、4月に白木蓮（ハクモクレン）と唐種招霊（カラタネオガタマ）を見ました。タイサンボクは木蓮の中でも最も遅く咲く種類のようです。
