Lysimachia Clethroides (Gooseneck Loosestrife) 丘虎の尾(オカトラノオ)

英語の後に日本語が続きます。

The gooseneck loosestrife (Lysimachia clethroides) is native to east Asia and can be found across Japan, producing white flowers from June to August. It's edible and used to be eaten in Japan as a famine plant (although it tastes bitter and astringent). The plant's Japanese name is "Okatora no o," which translates into "tiger tail growing on hills," after its flower spikes looking like tiger tails.

Horsefly on an Annual Fleabane (Erigeron Annuus) ヒメジョオン(姫女菀)

英語の後に日本語が続きます。

A horsefly came to land on a flower of annual fleabane (Erigeron annuus) and started to eat pollen. It was so tiny but a voracious eater😆. I'm not certain but I believe this is a long hoverfly (Sphaerophoria scripta).

Horsefly on Philadelphia Fleabane アブとハルジオン

英語の後に日本語が続きます。

This is Erigeron philadelphicus or more commonly Philadelphia fleabane with a horsefly. The plant is seen in so many places these days that I was bored with it before writing a post about it, but a horsefly on it is another story. I couldn't help but photograph the color contrast between the horsefly and the fleabane.

春紫苑(ハルジオン)です。たくさん咲いているので少々食傷気味だったのですが、アブと花の色のコントラストには目を奪われ、思わずパシャパシャしてしまいました。

I took a walk around the Japanese National Diet a couple of days ago, finding a dandelion and a hoverfly on it.
