Carpinus Japonica (Japanese Hornbeam) 熊四手（クマシデ）

This is a carpinus japonica or Japanese hornbeam flower. Didn't you think that it was a green(?) pine cone or common hop? I did😅..

A caterpillar also hanging from a next tree なぜか毛虫も｡｡｡

Since Japan declared a state of emergency for Tokyo and other prefectures, I've gone for a walk in areas with few people before they go out. I found this Japanese hornbeam tree in one such area, i.e., near the Imperial Palace, at 8 a.m. 

The tree has male and female flowers and I found only female ones and luckily (or unluckily?) a caterpillar also hanging from a tree next to the hornbeam tree🐛😁. I'm going there again next week to find male flowers.

熊四手（クマシデ）の花です。最初、緑のマツカサ？ホップ？と思いました😅

緊急事態宣言以来、人の少ない所を早い時間にお散歩するようにしています。この花を見たのは朝八時の皇居周辺です。

雌雄の花があるそうで、写真は雌。そしてなぜか毛虫も発見🐛😁 来週オスの花を探しに行こうと思ってます。
