It Was A Red Ranunculus!! ラナンキュラスでした！

I wrote about a red-rose like flower several days ago. I googled, but couldn't find the name of the flower, so said that in the post. Then I got a message from my flower teacher, rieo_pomegranate23, that the flower is not rose, but RANUNCULUS...

The leaf shape is like the legs of "rana," a frog in Latin.... 

It's not rose. A ranunculus!!

I googled again and learned that there was a reason for their similarity.

Ranunculus was originally yellow and single-flowered, but another variety of ranunculus was developed to meet people's demand for flowers which look like roses but bloom before roses. Ranunculus is a substitute for rose, so it's understandable that they look like each other.

I learned another thing. The flower was named after "rana," a frog in Latin, as the leaves look like a frog's legs. My flower teacher rieo_pomegranate23 also told me that the ranunculus leaf shape is different from that of roses.

先日、名前の分からない赤い花について書きました。一見バラのようで、名札にも「スターシップ ディープ ローズ」とあったのですが画像と名前が一致せず、それをそのまま書いたところ、花の師匠である rieo_pomegranate23 さんから「それはラナンキュラスよ！」というご指摘をいただきました。rieo_pomegranate23 さん、いつもありがとうございます！

改めてググったら、ラナンキュラスがバラに似ているのには理由があることが分かりました。

ラナンキュラス、最初は一重の黄色い花だったそうです。それが、バラが咲き始めるより前にバラのような花が欲しいということで品種改良されたとのこと。それともう一つ。ラナンキュラスという名前は葉っぱが「カエルの足」に似ていること、また湿地帯に生息することから、ラテン語の「rana（カエル）」 に由来するそうです。花の師匠もラナンキュラスとバラでは葉の形が違うと言っておられました☺
