White Evening-Primrose (Oenothera Rosea) 白花夕化粧（シロバナユウゲショウ）

Flowers bring happiness and white evening primroses (Oenothera rosea) especially do to me. They were flowering where there had been only pink ones two days ago. Evening primroses usually produce pink flowers, so finding white ones made me feel as if I had found four-leaf clovers!

A Horsefly on Rosy Evening-Primrose 赤花夕化粧とアブ

Rosy evening-primroses have started to bloom in my neighborhood and this morning I found one of them different. It had a black spot on it. That was a horsefly. I approached quietly and was able to take photos without waking the bug up.

"White?" Rosy Evening-Primrose (Oenothera Rosea) 白花夕化粧（シロバナユウゲショウ）？

It was like finding a four-leaf clover! This is "white" Oenothera rosea, also known as "white" rosy evening-primrose. I added double quotation marks because its flowers are usually or should be pink as the ones I wrote in late April, but it sometimes produces white flowers (mutation?) and in Japan, Oenothera rosea with white flowers are called "white" rosy evening-primrose. It's so confusing, but it's also exciting, isn't it! And that's why I can't stop looking down while walking to find something like this!!

This is Oenothera rosea, also known as rosy evening-primrose. Despite the smallness, it's so hardy that you can see such pretty pink flowers anywhere (e.g., on roadsides) in Tokyo around this time of year. I was engrossed in photographing them, so I didn't notice white azalea in full bloom behind at all (2nd photo).
