Kawazu Cherry (Cerasus x Kanzakura 'Kawazu-Zakura') カワヅサクラ（河津桜）

Kawazu cherry trees (Cerasus x kanzakura 'Kawazu-zakura'), which were in almost full bloom a week ago, are now in full bloom. It was a sunny day yesterday, so I took these photos from below the trees (which is my favorite way of photographing cherry blossoms) to capture the magnificent beauty of the blossoms against the blue sky.  

Kawazu cherry, a crossbreed of Oshima cherry (Prunus speciosa) and Taiwan cherry (Prunus campanulata), is named as such because it was first found in 1972 in Kawazu town, Shizuoka prefecture (Source: Kawazu town tourist association). Kawazu cherry trees bloom from early February to March, a little earlier than other cherry trees. A Kawazu cherry blossoms festival is held in the town every February.

I wrote about Kawazu-cherry blossoms last month. They were beautiful and today I found two trees still have super beautiful blossoms among the trees which have lost almost all of the flowers. I love cherry blossoms from a distance but love them the most when looking up under the trees because their pink color is deeper. I just wish it would have been sunny! Pink cherry blossoms against the blue sky are the best of the best!

It was a great surprise to see these cherry blossoms! They're Kawazu-zakura blossoms (Cerasus lannesiana), one of the earliest blooming cherry trees and my first cherry blossoms this year. I didn't notice them last week, so they've become like these for the last several days.

The trees (which I believe are Kawazu-zakura) in my neighborhood are now in full bloom!! Yesterday it rained throughout the day, but today it's so sunny, which makes these beautiful pink blossoms look even more beautiful!!

I said "I believe they're Kawazu cherry trees" because it's a little late for them to blossom (most Kawazu cherry trees in Japan have finished their blossom season) and none of these trees have name tags. But it doesn't matter. Sunny weather and beautiful cherry blossoms against the blue sky makes me happy!!

It was a great surprise to see these Kawazu-zakura blossoms (Cerasus lannesiana), one of the earliest blooming cherry trees, in Ueno, Tokyo! I was taking a late afternoon walk expecting to see plum blossoms but not cherry blossoms. Although the season for the Kawazu cherry blossoms is almost over, the pale pink blossoms with green leaves were so pretty. 

Below are the cherry blossoms I've seen this year. Though the list has only one type of cherry blossoms, it should include more!!🌸

About a month ago, Kawazu cherry trees in my neighborhood started to bloom and about two weeks ago, they were nearly in full bloom, and now they have many fresh leaves, meaning their blossom season will be soon over despite still having such gorgeous pink blossoms. 

I said goodbye to these Kawazu cherry blossoms but you don't have to worry. Many other cherry trees will start blooming soon in Japan. And every time I see beautiful flowers like these, I can't help but think about people in Ukraine and hope a real spring will come to them soon.

The dog that trots about finds a bone and I, who trot about every morning, found not a bone but Kawazu cherry!! I've taken a morning walk almost everyday for the last more than two years, so I must have passed by these cherry trees many times, but I hadn't noticed them at all.

This year's cherry blossom season will be in full swing soon in Japan. Last year, I enjoyed viewing the blossoms of more than ten types of cherry trees. What I most look forward to this year is the yellow blossoms of Ukon cherry!   

And last but not least, I really hope the Ukraine-Russia conflict will be over as soon as possible so that we can enjoy spring together.
