These are fruits (drupes) of Cornus florida or dogwood flowers. The fruits don't resemble those of Cornus kousa but the flowers of the two Cornus species do. You may not know but the autumn leaves of Cornus florida are gorgeous.

Flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) is native to North America but can now be found across Japan, producing red, white, and cream white flowers from April to May. The dogwood was donated by the U.S. to Japan in 1915 in exchange for cherry trees, a gift of friendship from Japan to the U.S.

Flowering dogwood shows us not only beautiful flowers but also gorgeous leaves in autumn.

Autumn has finally arrived not only on the calendar but in reality in Japan and flowering dogwood trees (Cornus florida) have started to produce fruits with leaves turning red! It's a bit early for the best season for viewing autumn leaves but these are beautiful enough as a starter.

This flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) tree is now in full bloom. The green flowers are so beautiful. Did you say something? No, I'm not mistaken. The flowers are green and the white things that look like petals are bracts😆.

Gigantic Cornus Florida 巨大な花水木

"Gigantic!!" That's what I said when I first saw it. This is a flowering dogwood tree (Cornus florida) growing by the Chidorigafuchi moat (i.e., the mort of the Imperial Palace). I see cream white and red flowering dogwood trees every day these days, but the tree is different!! The moat was built in the early 17th century, so the tree may be older than 400 years old??😉

Flowering dogwood has started to flower!! They're beautiful but also remind me of mandu dumplings😋

The cream white things that look like flower petals are actually bracts. The petals are tiny greenish yellow objects protruding from the center of the flowers.
