Philadelphia fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus) is native to North America, introduced to Japan around 1920, and can now be found across the country. In fact, the plant is so prevalent as a weed that it is called "binbo gusa" (poor weed) or "binbo giku" (poor chrysanthemum) in some areas of Japan. Sitting on one Philadelphia fleabane is a tiny hoverfly (Sphaerophoria indiana). It is so small, yet very beautiful.

Horsefly on Philadelphia Fleabane アブとハルジオン

This is Erigeron philadelphicus or more commonly Philadelphia fleabane with a horsefly. The plant is seen in so many places these days that I was bored with it before writing a post about it, but a horsefly on it is another story. I couldn't help but photograph the color contrast between the horsefly and the fleabane.

春紫苑（ハルジオン）です。たくさん咲いているので少々食傷気味だったのですが、アブと花の色のコントラストには目を奪われ、思わずパシャパシャしてしまいました。
