Joro spiders (Trichonephila clavata) are native to Asia and can be found across Japan. As is often the case with spiders, the females are much larger. While a female's body length ranges from 17mm to 30mm, a male's is only 6mm to 10mm. This means the two spiders in the post are both female.
Another feature of these spiders is that the females are more colorful than the males. Because of this striking contrast, the spider's Japanese name is joro gumo, which translates to 'court lady spider.' The female's vibrant appearance—featuring black legs banded with golden yellow—resembles a court lady's colorful kimono.
They spin quite large webs, about 50 cm in diameter, which shine beautifully in the sunlight.

ジョロウグモ（女郎蜘蛛、上臈蜘蛛）です。夏から秋に大きな網を張ります。メスの体長はオスの2倍ほどでとってもカラフル。このカラフルさが名前の由来となりました。ジョロウグモの黄色と黒の美しい模様を上臈（じょうろう）の着る着物に見立てたと言われています。
美しく、雄の2倍のジョロウグモの雌。きれいですがちょっと怖い悪女かな？😱
