Cerasus Sato-Zakura Group ‘Albo-Rosea’ Makino (Fugenzo cherry)

Japanese follows English.

This is cerasus sato-zakura group ‘albo-rosea’ Makino or Fugenzo cherry, another member of the sato cherry group and the ninth type of cherry I've found this spring following the eight below.

Fugenzo cherry

Multi-petaled

The color ranges from bright to whitish pink

The cherry is called in Japanese "Fugenzo," meaning "the elephant🐘 with Samantabhadra on it," because the stamens of the flower look like the nose of that elephant (see the photo below). Do you see the similarity😄?

Do the stamens look like the nose of an elephant?

Fugenzo cherry is a member of the sato cherry group as Ichiyo cherry is. They are siblings having the same mother Oshima cherry, and both have flowers in various pink colors as their mother Oshima cherry does.

Another common feature of Fugenzo and Ichiyo cherry is that both are multi-petaled and this makes both blossoms look gorgeous.
