Prunus Cerasifera (Cherry Plum) 紅葉スモモ(ベニバスモモ)

Japanese follows English. 英語の後に日本語が続きます。

This is prunus cerasifera or commonly cherry plum, which I mistook for Yoshino cherry last year. Just to be clear, although called "cherry plum," this isn't cherry but PLUM.

Cherry plum ベニバスモモ

Looks like Yoshino cherry, but not 桜みたいだけと違う

Still buds at the end of February 2月末はまだ蕾

Beginning of March 3月上旬

In Japan, spring comes with plum, peach and cherry blossoms. People enjoy all of them, but especially cherry in full bloom from late March to early April by taking a walk or drinking wine and sake under cherry blossoms to appreciate their ephemeral beauty. So guess how excited I was last year when finding the cherry plum tree in full bloom (again, it's called "cherry plum," but it's not cherry but PLUM), mistaking it for Yoshino cherry...

But everyone makes mistakes and we learn from them. This year, I looked forward to the cherry plum blossoms and now am looking forward to Yoshino cherry blossoms in two weeks🌸
