I was so exhausted mentally that I needed something to recharge me so went to the Toyo Kan (Asian Gallery) of the Tokyo National Museum and found this!
You are thinking it's just a beautiful box or container, aren't you? Nope! It's a pillow glazed in three colors with stamped arabesque design, made in China in the 8th century. How can someone sleep with a pottery pillow?
Both are so beautiful, filling me with joy, peace and happiness, recharging me! They are gifts from Mr. Matsushige Hirota, a late Japanese ancient art dealer (1897- 1973). He gave 496 items, almost all his collections, to this museum.
Do you know what this is? It's a scepter with a watch decorated with colored glasses, pearl and enamel paintings. It was made in China in the 19th century with the watch and enamel paintings made in Europe. Emperors of the Qing dynasty adored imported watches. I was standing in front of this real rainbow scepter, just staring at it for a few minutes.
Next question! What do you think the pottery box in the picture below for?
