It seems so fresh and so real, doesn't it? I've eaten pomegranates only a few times and don't remember how they tasted like, but when I set my eyes on this red stone craft, I wanted to take a bite of it!
It's titled "Pomegranate," a Chinese sculpture in the 19th century at the Toyo Kan (Asian Gallery) of the Tokyo National Museum. I first thought this is ceramic, but it's made of agate with ruby inlaid in the seeds part.
This is a sculpture referred to as a "俏色 (shoshoku) sculpture," carved out of stones while maximizing their original colors, i.e., in this case, red, the original color of agate. I learned that the National Palace Museum in Taipei also has this type of sculpture, Jadeite Cabbage.
I stood in front of this stone pomegranate, just staring for several minutes, which filled me with warmth and energy.
I like jewelry (who doesn't! I'm a woman), but used to like transparent ones, e.g., diamonds, sapphires, rubies, but now I like opaque ones more, such as jades, agates, corals. I learned how these opaque stones are beautiful and quietly enchanting when watching "The Joy Luck Club"(which was aired on TV in Japan just a few months ago). The four female main characters were all wearing jade rings, necklaces and/or earrings. The green color caught my attention.
I've decided to go to the National Palace Museum in Taipei to see "The Jadeite Cabbage"!!

「俏色工芸」という石の特性を生かした工芸だそうです。台湾の故宮博物院には「翠玉白菜」という、翡翠でできた、虫が止まっている白菜を模したものがあるとのこと。そういえば、先日、NHKで放映されていた「ジョイ・ラック・クラブ」を見てたら、4人の主役が翡翠のアクセサリーを身に付けているのに気付きました。以前は、ダイアモンド、サファィア、ルビーなどの透明な石が好きだったのですが、最近、翡翠、珊瑚、瑪瑙など不透明なものに目が行くようになりました。（目が行くだけで持ってはいません｡｡｡）

柘榴、私も子供の頃何度か食べたことありますがそれほど美味しいとは思いませんでした。種ばかりですしね(^_^;)

素材の持ち味を生かした（食レポみたいですね。笑）中国のこういう技術は本当に素晴らしいですね。
台湾の故宮博物院で白菜見たことありますが、鉱物とは思えないほどリアルでした！サイズ感はリアルではありませんでしたが。笑

削除私は昔はフランスとオーストリアだったんです。ところが、最近はシルクロードの悠久さが私を惹きつけてやみません♪ 中国や西域の芸術にヨーロッパと日本をつなぐ何かを探しているのかもしれません｡｡｡。当分、はまってみようと思っております！
