It seems so fresh and so real, doesn't it? I've eaten pomegranates only a few times and don't remember what they tasted like, but when I set eyes on this red stone craft, I wanted to take a bite of it!
This piece, titled 'Pomegranate,' is a 19th-century Chinese sculpture housed in the Toyo Kan (Asian Gallery) of the Tokyo National Museum. I originally thought it was ceramic, but it is actually made of agate with rubies inlaid as the seeds.
This is a qiaose sculpture—a style of carving that makes use of the stone's natural color variations. In this case, it highlights the natural red of the agate. I learned that the National Palace Museum in Taipei holds a famous example of this technique as well: the Jadeite Cabbage.
I stood in front of this stone pomegranate, just staring for several minutes as it filled me with warmth and energy. I’ve always loved jewelry (who doesn't? I am a woman, after all!), but I used to prefer transparent gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. Now, I find myself drawn more to opaque stones, such as jade, agate, and coral. I learned how beautiful and quietly enchanting these opaque stones can be while watching The Joy Luck Club. The four female main characters all wore jade rings, necklaces, and earrings. The vibrant green color completely caught my attention.
Since then, I've been wanting to visit the National Palace Museum in Taipei to see the Jadeite Cabbage!!

東京国立博物館の東洋館で見ました。最初陶器かと思ったら何と瑪瑙とルビーでできているんですって。本当に生き生きとしていて、嚙り付きたくなりました｡｡。
「俏色工芸」という石の特性を生かした工芸だそうです。台湾の故宮博物院には「翠玉白菜」という、翡翠でできた、虫が止まっている白菜を模したものがあるとのこと。そういえば、以前、NHKで放映されていた「ジョイ・ラック・クラブ」を見ていたら、4人の主役が翡翠のアクセサリーを身に付けているのに気付きました。以前は、ダイアモンド、サファィア、ルビーなどの透明な石が好きだったのですが、最近、翡翠、珊瑚、瑪瑙など不透明なものに目が行くようになりました。（目が行くだけで持ってはいませんが｡｡｡😂）

柘榴、私も子供の頃何度か食べたことありますがそれほど美味しいとは思いませんでした。種ばかりですしね(^_^;)

素材の持ち味を生かした（食レポみたいですね。笑）中国のこういう技術は本当に素晴らしいですね。
台湾の故宮博物院で白菜見たことありますが、鉱物とは思えないほどリアルでした！サイズ感はリアルではありませんでしたが。笑
