If you want to be popular with Japanese women, you need to understand autumn clouds. Japan has a saying that "Women's minds and autumn clouds (女心と秋の空 [onna gokoro to aki no sora])," meaning women's minds are fickle like clouds in autumn.

So let's study two types of autumn clouds. Altocumulus clouds in the first picture are called "sheep clouds" while cirrocumulus clouds in the second photo are "sardine clouds," which are also called mackerel or fish scale clouds. Sheep live in higher places than fish also in the sky!
上の写真がひつじ雲、下がいわし雲（さば雲またはうろこ雲）です。いわし雲 は子供の頃から知っていたのですが、ひつじ雲は先日、いつもコメントをくださる rieo さんから教えていただきました。
英語ではこういう「乙な」言い方はないようで、ひつじ雲は「altocumulus（高積雲）」、いわし雲は「cirrocumulus（巻積雲）」と言うようです。正しいけどすぐ忘れてしまいそうです（笑）！
These clouds are all said to be signs of rain in a few days. But even bringing bad weather, sheep, sardine, mackerel and fish scale clouds are so beautiful, always making me keenly aware of the ending of summer and the beginning of autumn!!

返信削除晴れたり曇ったり台風が来たり…この一週間も目まぐるしい変化でしたね(*_*)
たまたまこの写真を見る前、空を見上げたとき、これはひつじ雲？いわし雲？もしかしたら同じ種類だけど呼び方が幾通りかあるのかな？と思い調べてたんです。できる高さも大きさも全然違う雲だったんですね。私もこの秋初めて知りました。
そういえば入道雲やおぼろ雲等、形を他のものに例えた名前のほうが覚えやすいですね。俳句の季語でもあるようですし。

rieo さん、コメントいつもありがとうございます。そして先日は、ひつじ雲についても教えていただきありがとうございました。おかげでネタになりました（笑）。花といい、雲といい、いろいろ知ってらっしゃるのでいつもためになっております。そうですか。おぼろ雲というのもあるのですね。ちなみにいわし雲の写真は台風の翌日（日曜日）に取りました。
削除秋の空に例えるのは日本だけなようですが、女心が移ろいやすい（かっこよく言ってみました）のは万国共通なようです。何ででしょう？自分はそれほど移り気だとは思っていないのですが｡｡。でも行動を振り返ってみるとそうかもしれませんね（恐！）。連れ合いには移り気を起こさないよう気を引き締めていきたいと思います！！🙇(￣∇￣;)
