Ornamental cabbage or "leaf peony" in Japanese in Ueno peony garden

The Japanese name of ornamental cabbage is "ha botan," meaning "leaf peony" although it has nothing to do with peonies (such as the one below) but its appearance.

葉牡丹って見た目以外は牡丹と関係なく、英語では ornamental cabbage と言うようです。「飾りキャベツ」？？ 分かりやすいですが風情があるかと問われると、うむむ｡｡｡という感じですね。
