Callicarpa Japonica (Japanese Beautyberry) 紫式部（ムラサキシキブ）

These are drupes of Callicarpa japonica or more commonly known as Japanese beautyberry at the Institute for Nature Study, i.e., a park or forest in the heart of Central Tokyo. These drupes resemble those of Callicarpa dichotoma or early amethyst very much, but their tree height differs. The tree of Callicarpa japonica can grow as tall as 3 meters while the Callicarpa dichotoma is just 0.3 to 1 meter tall. 

There are many red fruits and berries but such bright purple berries are rare.

附属自然教育園の紫式部（ムラサキシキブ）です。小紫（コムラサキ）の実ととっても似ていますが、紫式部は3メートルほどに成長するのに対して、小紫は30センチからせいぜい1メートルほどです。赤い実はよく見かけますがこんなに鮮やかな紫の実は珍しいです。
