The Japanese spirea (Spiraea japonica) in my neighborhood has started to flower. The gradation of pale to bright pink is so pretty. Its Japanese name "
shimotsuke" is after the Shimotsuke province or the current Tochigi prefecture where the plant was found for the first time in Japan.

近所のシモツケ（下野）が咲き始めました。ピンクのグラデーションがとてもきれいです。下野国（栃木県）で発見されたのでこの名が付いたそうです。
