Corchoropsis is native to east Asia and can be found across Japan, producing yellow flowers from August to September. There are several types of Corchoropsis in east Asia but Japan has only the type of those in these photos, Corchoropsis crenata Sieb. et Zucc. Its Japanese name is "karasu no goma," which translates into "crow's sesame," after the resemblance of its seeds to sesames and crows eating the seeds.
