Netsuke "Humpty Dumpty" 根付「ハンプティ・ダンプティ」

英語の後に日本語が続きます。

This 3 cm long porcelain is netsuke, titled "Humpty Dumpty" on display at the Tokyo National Museum. It was crafted by Lynn Richardson.

I didn't understand why this Humpty Dumpty netsuke was broken into three parts until I read the nursery rhyme below. I knew about Humpty Dumpty, but I thought Lewis Carroll created the character for Through the Looking-Glass.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

We don’t truly understand the real meaning of something without its background information. That’s why I enjoy writing for this blog—it pushes me to research everything from Humpty Dumpty to flowers and bugs, deepening my understanding of the world around me.

東京国立博物館の根付「ハンプティ・ダンプティ」です。陶器製、リン・リチャードソン作です。可愛くないですか！

ハンプティ・ダンプティって、ルイス・キャロルが「鏡の国のアリス」のために作ったキャラクターだと思ってたのですがマザーグースのキャラクターだったんですね。以下が一般に知られている歌詞です。

ハンプティ・ダンプティが塀に座った

ハンプティ・ダンプティが落っこちた

王様の馬と家来の全部がかかっても

ハンプティを元に戻せなかった

これを読んでハンプティダンプティがバラバラになっている理由が分かりました。背景を知らないと物事のホントの意味って分かりませんね😂。
