Briza Maxima (Big Quaking Grass) 小判草(コバンソウ)

They are spikelets of briza maxima or big quaking grass. The plant is called "Oval gold coin plant" in Japanese and can be seen anywhere not only in my neighborhood, but also around the Imperial Palace.

What do they look like? 何に見えますか?


I saw this plant for the first time last May and at that time thought they were some kind of insects. Now I know they are just a plant quaking even in the breeze and looking like a gold coin, but still sometimes feel itchy, suspicious that they may actually be bugs😓...

小判草(コバンソウ)です。ぶら下がっている小穂が小判に似ているのでその名が付きました。初めて見たのは去年の5月。その時は虫かと思いました。今はそうじゃないと分かってはいるのですが、見てると今も時々ムズムズします😓
