The rainy season has come earlier than usual in most parts of Japan (luckily not in Tokyo yet!), and that means the hydrangea season has also come. This is hydrangea macrophylla f. normalis or lacecap hydrangea in blue/purple and white. How beautiful the tiny colorful flowers surrounded by the sepals are! They look like dots of pointillism!
Japan finally started large-scale state-run vaccination in Tokyo and other prefectures on May 24. I happened to pass by the Tokyo vaccination site near the Imperial Palace, seeing many people working there despite that it was Saturday. I found the blue/purple hydrangeas near there. People coming to the site may be pretty desperate to get vaccinated, but I just hope some of them to have room to look around and appreciate their beauty.
This is the fourth post of a series about hydrangeas this year. If you're interested in other hydrangeas, read the following!!
- Hydrangea Paniculata (Panicled Hydrangea) - cone-shaped
- Hydrangea Macrophylla F. Normalis (Lacecap Hydrangea) - No.1
- Red Mophead Hydrangea
