Saxifraga Stolonifera (Creeping Saxifrage)

Japanese follows English.

This is saxifraga stolonifera or more commonly creeping saxifrage. I first thought that parts of the three petals were gone, but I was mistaken. The flowers are just what they should be, i.e., three small petals and two big ones, which, when combined, looks like a samurai wearing a kamishimo or an old ceremonial dress.

Many samurais!!

In Germany, however, the plant is called "Jewish beard" because the runners are like the beard while in China, it's called "Tiger ears" because the round-shaped marbled leaves look like tiger ears. People see things differently, don't they?

Japanese people didn't name creeping saxifrage after the appearance, but its hardiness that allows the plant to grow green leaves even under the snow. In Japan, it's called "Under the snow"😉
