Wine Vessel Carved from Ivory 象牙彫卣

The first photo shows the top of an ivory wine container housed at the Tokyo National Museum. Made during the 18th century during the Qing dynasty, the lion on top teaches us exactly how to smile when told to 'Say cheese.'

Say cheese!

More specifically, to replicate this lion's grand smile, you need to:

• Create the right mood;
• Position your face to your best advantage;
• Open your mouth so a small part of your teeth is exposed, stretching your lips as wide as you can; and
• Keep your eyes wide open while doing it.

Can you pull it off? If not, you might need to pay a visit to the museum!😆

東京国立博物館所蔵の象牙彫卣です。象牙でできた酒の容器で「ぞうげぼりゆう」と読むそうです。最初、竹でできていると思いました。でもそれよりインパクトがあるのは獅子のビッグスマイル。引き込まれてこっちまで笑ってしまいませんか？

「卣」は「さかつぼ」とも読むそうです。漢字って奥が深いです。
