英語の後に日本語が続きます。
Lenten rose (Helleborus orientalis) is native to Greece and Turkey but can be found across Japan now, known as "Christmas rose."
The plant tag nearby also says "クリスマスローズ (Christmas rose)" and this is understandable because in Japan, the Lent period is almost unknown. You would find it strange to see "Christmas roses" for the Lent period but there is a saying that "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." So, when in Japan, please do call the Lenten rose "Christmas rose"!

クリスマスローズです。でも変だと思いませんか。クリスマスはとっくに終わっています。そうなんです。この花、日本語だと「クリスマスローズ」ですが、英語では Lenten rose。クリスマスローズ（Christmas rose）はクリスマスの時期に、レンテンローズ（Lenten rose）はレントの時期（イースターの前の40日間）に咲くのでその名が付きました。でも、日本ではまとめてどちらもクリスマスローズ。誤解を生む和製英語の典型です｡｡｡
