I went to the shrine last week before the measures for preventing the spread of Covid-19 took effect in Tokyo on April 12. I didn't expect to see many people in the shrine but such beautiful wisteria either.
It was only five days after the same measures had taken effect in Osaka on April 5, but the number of infections there was rising far faster than had expected, resulting in the bed occupancy in Osaka expected to be over safe levels any minute.
Infections and deaths from Covid-19 in Japan are much less than those of other countries, but the rapid spread of the variants and delays in the vaccination program are worrying enough given the current situation in Osaka. So, it was so good to be there because I was able to forget about Covid- 19 at least for some time thanks to these beautiful wisteria flowers.

蔓延防止等重点措置適用直前に行った赤坂日枝神社の藤です。藤が咲いているなんて全く知らなかったのでびっくり。大阪の状況が気がかりだったのですが、藤のおかげでしばし忘れることができました。
