Japanese follows English. 英語の後に日本語が続きます。

They are hydrangea quercifolia or oakleaf hydrangea at Kan'-ei-ji temple in Ueno, Tokyo and in my neighborhood.

Tokyo has been under the third state of emergency since April 25, so I've had to find places with few people for weekend walking recently. One such place is around the Imperial Palace and another is near Ueno Park where I found the hydrangeas in the first three photos.

Oakleaf hydrangea isn't as common as mophead hydrangeas, but not that rare. Something, however, makes the oakleaf ones in the temple different from those in my neighborhood, i.e., they are side by side with pink and purple mophead hydrangeas.

There is another cone-shaped hydrangea called hydrangea paniculata or panicled hydrangea. If you're interested, compare these two types of corn-shaped hydrangeas.

This is the eighth post of a series about hydrangeas this year. If you're interested in other hydrangeas, read the following posts!!
