White and Red Japanese Camellia 紅白椿

You may often see red Japanese camellia flowers but how about white ones? 

White Japanese camellia 白い椿

Turning brown... 茶色っぽい

Deep red camellia 真っ赤な椿

A little pinkish red? 少しピンクっぽい？

The flower falling off in its entirety was associated with "beheading" by samurai 落椿

Japanese camellia flowers later than sasanqua does 椿の見頃は山茶花の後  

I often saw camellia sasanqua ("sasanqua") late last year, and at that time presumed that my neighborhood had sasanqua but no Japanese camellia, but I was wrong. I've found not only red Japanese camellia trees but also white Japanese camellia trees in the neighborhood. 

Japanese camellia look like sasanqua, and experts give us several ways to distinguish these two camellia flowers, but the biggest difference is I believe the size of trees, i.e., the Japanese camellia tree is bigger and taller than the sasanqua tree. Another easy-to-see difference is when the tree flowers, that is, Japanese camellia flowers later than sasanqua does. And don't forget the difference in how they die. Japanese camellia was unpopular among samurai because a Japanese camellia flower falling off in its entirety unlike a sasanqua flower, which dies with petals falling off one by one, was associated with death by beheading😱 by samurai.

近所に山茶花はあっても椿はないと思っていたのですがありました。しかも白も赤も！そしてとうとうツバキと山茶花の見分け方を体得した！と思い（込み😆）ました。

一番簡単なのは大きさではないでしょうか。椿の方が圧倒的に木が大きいと思います。次は咲く時期。山茶花は年末にかけてが見頃、椿は年が明けてからでしょうか。そしてやはり死に方（落椿）。あんなに見事にコロッと（首のようにかどうかは落ちた首を見たことがないので分からない😱）落ちるのはツバキです。近所の落ちツバキが見頃です！
