Solanum Carolinense is "Rogue" in Japan.... 良い茄子と悪茄子（ワルナスビ）

This is an eggplant flower I saw at Mukojima Hykkaen Garden in Tokyo. If you don’t believe that, look at the second picture of the flower and an eggplant!!

The flowers below are solanum carolinense or radical weed I have seen everywhere in my neighborhood over the last three months. They look like eggplant flowers but are not, and are called, in Japanese "ROGUE eggplant" because of their toxicity.

Looks innocent but is toxic 可憐に見えて有毒

Japanese call some plants terrible names, such as "rogue eggplant (solanum carolinense)," "fart sxxx vine (skunkvine, which is also terrible)" and "dog's testicles (grey field-speedwell)"😂 and in most cases, Tomitaro Makino is responsible.

Makino (1862 - 1957) is a pioneer Japanese botanist noted for his taxonomic work, called "Father of Japanese Botany." As one of the first Japanese botanists, he worked extensively on classifying Japanese plants, and his research resulted in documenting 50,000 specimens, many of which are represented in his "Makino's Illustrated Flora of Japan." I respect and admire him, but there is something I don't understand. How can someone who loves plants and flowers like him give such awful (but a little hilarious😂) names!! We can never know people truly...

向島百花園で見かけた茄子の花と茄子の実です。そして近所中で見かける悪茄子（ワルナスビ）です。こんなに可愛いのに毒があります。

悪茄子と命名したのは牧野富太郎博士。「日本の植物学の父」といわれ、生まれた日は「植物学の日」に制定されているそうです。きっと草花が好きだったと思うのですが、じゃあどうして「悪茄子（ワルナスビ）」、「屁糞葛（ヘクソカズラ）」、「犬の殖栗（イヌノフグリ）」なんてひどい（でもちょっと笑える😂）名前を付けたのでしょう！ 人ってわかりません｡｡｡
