Rabbit Shaped White Jade Container 白玉兎合子

This is a container in the shape of a rabbit at Tokyo National Museum, carved from white jade in the 18th to 19th century in the Qing dynasty period.

It really appears like a rabbit running on the field, doesn't it? The rabbit represents longevity in China.

China has a long history of crafting fine objects from jade and other gemstones while maximizing their original colors, and Japan calls such objects "shoshoku sculptures."

東京国立博物館の「白玉兎合子」です。「合子」って入れ物という意味なんですね。英語（Container in shape of rabbit）の方がよく分かります。「俏色工芸」という石の特性を生かした工芸です。中国で兎は「長寿」を意味するとのこと。本当に走ってるみたいですね。
