A Wife Wants To Be Free... 自由になりたい妻

Everyone wants to be free from COVID-19, but that person wants to be free from something else more than anything..... 

Two weeks ago, a guest of a Zoom meeting I'd set up a month earlier cancelled the meeting. He called me 30 minutes before the start and told me his wife had left home without saying where she was going. He has no computer or smartphone, so he can't join Zoom meetings without her (computer). (Though even if he has one, he doesn't know how to use it.) 

Something very similar had happened seven years ago, too. That time, he'd also called me, telling me that his wife suddenly had disappeared and asking if she was with me. Three minutes later, she'd called me, too, telling me not to worry, that she was just walking along a river to cool her down without anything but an apron and her purse. She'd ultimately gone to a hotel 30 minute walk away from home, spent a night there, and come home the following day. 

The reason for these two incidents is the same. SHE WANTS TO BE FREE not from COVID-19, but her husband or meal preparation. According to her, if her husband has retired from work, she, as a homemaker, should also be able to retire from her work, i.e., household work, including meal preparation!! But who would be free if someone like her, who is free of any physical or financial problems, weren't...?     

I don't know how they are doing now because a week later, I got sick myself with the temperature going up to nearly 104°F, so I haven't heard from them since. I worry a bit about MY PARENTS...

先日ズームミーティングがドタキャンになりました。参加者の男性から開始寸前に電話がかかり、奥さんが家出したので参加できないと連絡があったのです。

7年ほど前にも似たようなことがあり、その時は奥さんからも電話があり、「エプロンのまま財布だけ持って家出したけど心配しないで」と言われました。

理由は同じです。奥さん「自由になりたい」そうです。曰く「旦那がリタイアしているなら自分もリタイアなのでご飯を作るのはもう嫌だ」とのこと。でも今のところこのご夫婦、病気もお金の心配もない。お二人とも十分に自由だと思うのですが｡｡｡

ちなみに、私その後、発熱40度で救急搬送されたのでこの二人（言いたかないけど私の両親）がどうなったかは知りません｡｡｡ 情けない｡｡｡
