Mahonia Japonica Wards Off Evil Spirit

Japanese follows English.

This is mahonia Japonica. Although the name suggests this plant is native to Japan, it's actually from Taiwan. The flower's pale yellow color is tender, creating a contrast with sharply toothed leaves.

The leaves are sharply toothed

I see the plants everywhere in my neighborhood and there are two reasons for that. The tree is hardy, and in Japan, it's often planted in the northeast or southwest corner of premises to ward off evil spirits, which I wish were true! Now, whenever I see the plant, I pray for the end of the pandemic as soon as possible.
