Fragrant Evening-Primrose (Oenothera Stricta) マツヨイグサ（待宵草）

Fragrant evening-primrose (Oenothera stricta) is native to South America, was imported to Japan in the late 19th century, and can now be found across Japan. This evening-primrose resembles common evening-primrose (Oenothera biennis) very much with one easy-to-tell difference, i.e., fragrant evening primroses turn orange as they wither. The other flower in the pictures, which has turned orange, told me these were not common but fragrant evening primroses.

松宵草（マツヨイグサ）です。南米原産で19世紀後半には日本に渡来したようで、今は全国で見られます。雌待宵草（メマツヨイグサ）とよく似ているのですが、マツヨイグサは萎むと花の色がオレンジになるとのこと。隣の花が萎んでいてオレンジだったのでマツヨイグサだということが分かりました｡
