I've written many posts about netsuke. According to Britannica, netsuke is an ornamental togglelike piece, usually of carved ivory, used to attach a medicine box, pipe, or tobacco pouch to the obi (sash) of a Japanese man’s traditional dress.
Because of such functionality, netsuke needs to be very small (i.e., about 3cm) and therefore is very miniature and delicate like the three netsuke below on show at Tokyo National Museum.

These are all 3 cm tall/long netsuke in the shape of, from the top:
- Wind god and thunder god
- Masks
- Fisherman and blowfish
They are all funny and cawaii, but don't be fooled by their appearance! Wind and thunder gods are usually like in the byobu painting below and blowfish is poisonous!!

By the way, my favorite sake in winter is hirezake (literally, fin sake), i.e., hot sake with a grilled blowfish fin. Hirezake is not only tasty with nice (not fishy but charcoal!) flavor but makes us warm.
I go to my favorite sushi restaurant to have hirezake and sushi every year around this time in winter, but I can't because of Covid-19😭 So instead, I got a pack of blowfish fins online and have this fin sake I make myself and sushi taken away from that restaurant😊😊!
