I went to the mosque because I had seen these beautiful stained glasses on TV, and realized that I'd never been to any Islamic building in my life. I'd been to temples, shrines and churches but never any mosques. 

Like most Japanese, I'm officially a Buddhist, but actually an atheist. I don't believe in the existence of any God, but it doesn't mean I don't believe in the existence of a god. Rather, I believe in the existence of every god. So, I go to temples, shrines, churches and mosques as long as they exist for good reason. I also respect those believing in something and acting according to their belief but those believing "too much." Japan has a proverb, "Too much can be as bad as too little." Someone believing in something too much without listening to others is no longer a believer but a fanatic.

The mosque was established by Kazan Turks who migrated from Russia to Japan when the Soviet Union started to rule in 1917. I knew that Russian Jews had been persecuted, but not about Russian Muslims. How many Japanese know this history and that Japan has mosques? I bet few know. Japanese have very few opportunities to think about religion/belief discrimination...

The prayer room, stained glasses, tower and everything in the mosque were beautiful and people there were humble, kind and calm.

東京ジャーミイ・トルコ文化センターです。トルコイスラム教のモスクで、東京代々木上原にあります。「美の壺」でこのモスクが紹介されていてその存在を初めて知りました。寺社仏閣、教会には何度も行ったことがあるのに、モスクに行ったのは初めてでした。

東京ジャーミイ・トルコ文化センターは、ロシア革命を機に日本に移住してきた、カザン州のトルコ人が建設したモスクです。ロシア（やソ連）でユダヤ人が迫害されていたことは知ってましたが、イスラム教徒迫害については知りませんでした。モスクは美しく、人も穏やかで親切でした。

私は八百万の神を信じているので、寺社、教会、モスクその他の施設にはこれからもできるだけ足を運ぼうと思います。また、信仰や信念に基づいて行動する人のことは尊敬しています。ただ、何事も行き過ぎてしまうと狂信になってしまいますけどね｡｡｡

信仰や宗教等を理由に人やものを迫害する組織は信仰でも宗教でもありません。国家も同様です。日本にいると見えにくい信仰と宗教について考えさせられた1日でした。
