This is veronica arvensis or more commonly corn speedwell. By comparing it with common vetch (in the second photo), you can see how corn speedwell is tiny! It's as cawaii as trigonotis peduncularis!

- Veronica polita or grey field-speedwell, called in Japanese "Dog balls"
- Veronica persica or Persian speedwell, called "Large dog balls"
- Veronica arvensis or corn speedwell, called "Standing dog balls" (i.e., this post)
Tomitaro Makino, a Japanese botanist, is responsible for this, i.e., he named grey field speedwell "Dog balls," and because of that, Persian speedwell was named "Large dog balls" because it's a little larger than grey field speedwell, then corn speedwell "Standing dog balls" because, unlike grey field speedwell covering the ground, corn speedwell stands upright.
Whatever the reason is, it's awful to give such cawaii flowers these terrible names!!😂

立ち犬の陰嚢（タチイヌノフグリ）です。胡瓜草（キュウリグサ）並みにちっちゃくてカワイイです！いつも言ってますが、こんなひどい名前が付いたのは「犬の陰嚢（イヌノフグリ）」を命名した牧野富太郎先生のせい。先生、ひどいです😂
